Is Sports Psychology For Me?

You might be unsure if getting a sports psychologist is right for you, or whether you “need” it. I believe every athlete would benefit from having the help of a sports psychologist, regardless of whether or not they are “having issues” in their sport. Sports psychologists enhance your performance in a similar way to nutritionists, strength and conditioning coaches, physiotherapists and physical coaches, i.e. there doesn’t have to be a “problem” in order to help. A sports psychologist can help you focus on the mental, behavioural and emotional factors that can influence training, competition, recovery, and long-term development. See below for who can benefit from working with a sports psychologist.

Alice Hegarty

“I worked with Emma through two training plans. The first was to prepare for a marathon and the second to help me build up my strength following a lower back injury.
I wouldn’t have known where to start with marathon training, but Emma’s programming was achievable without being overwhelming. She’s super supportive and tailored the training around my gym sessions and adapted it if any injuries cropped up. I would never have run a marathon without her help!
Emma also programmed strength and conditioning sessions for me after I had a lower back injury. These sessions, along with Emma’s advice and guidance, gave me a good structure to build my strength back up and the confidence to get back in the gym.
Emma’s a great coach, if I have any training goals I need help with in the future I’ll be turning to her again and I’d recommend anyone else to do the same.”

“I recently did a 16 week training block for the Manchester Marathon with Gage. She helped me fall in love with running, whilst pushing me progressively along the way, all whilst keeping me injury free. She truly is amazing at her job and would recommend her programme to anyone!”
