-
If you lack confidence in yourself when it comes to training or competition, I can help you build it up, giving you the tools to enhance your own self-belief. Perhaps you are great in training but when it comes to competition you lose confidence - I can help!
-
Perhaps you struggle to be resilient when things are tough, or maybe you struggle to push through difficult training sessions or competitive situations. We can work together to help you develop mental toughness and resilience, building an iron mind for when it is needed!
-
I can teach you skills that will help when it comes to performance, including self-talk, and which type is right for you, imagery and visualisation, goal setting, and mindfulness/relaxation techniques.
-
Sporting progress is often not linear, and most athletes will suffer setbacks at times, including injuries, deselection, performance plateaus, team changes, coaching issues, etc. I can help you work through these challenging periods and help you to manage it.
-
If you are thinking of retiring, are retiring, or have already retired, and feeling uncertain or worried about things, I can help you through this process. Athletic retirement is tricky, but with the right support, the transition can be smooth and I can help you to know you are going in the right direction and with the right support.
-
Athletes can often face mental blocks either in training or competition and it is hard to know what brought them on, why they exist and how to break through them. It can cause you to feel frustrated and performance can suffer. I can help you overcome these blocks and teach you skills to minimise the likelihood of them returning and overcome them if they do.
-
I can help you work through issues in your team, resolve conflict with teammates and coaches and develop skills to help enhance teamwork and communication.
-
I am able to help you enhance your wellbeing within your sport. I am also able to help you handle stress and anxiety (particularly performance anxiety), burnout and identity issues related to your sport.
Whilst I am not a clinical psychologist and thus not qualified to assist with complex problems such as eating disorders, clinical depression and severe anxiety, I am able to refer you to relevant professionals should the need occur.
Is Sports Psychology For Me?
You might be unsure if getting a sports psychologist is right for you, or whether you “need” it. I believe every athlete would benefit from having the help of a sports psychologist, regardless of whether or not they are “having issues” in their sport. Sports psychologists enhance your performance in a similar way to nutritionists, strength and conditioning coaches, physiotherapists and physical coaches, i.e. there doesn’t have to be a “problem” in order to help. A sports psychologist can help you focus on the mental, behavioural and emotional factors that can influence training, competition, recovery, and long-term development. See below for who can benefit from working with a sports psychologist.
-
You don’t have to be an elite athlete to benefit from working with a sports psychologist. You might be novice, amateur, youth, masters, or you might not even class yourself as an athlete, just someone who enjoys recreational sport.
-
Coaches can benefit from working with a sports psychologist for a number of reasons. Team / group dynamics, leadership support, handling stress, building confidence, managing competitive anxiety, etc. It can also be helpful to work WITH a sports psychologist for the benefit of the athletes you coach, to ensure the environment your team / group of athletes are in helps them to perform at their best.
-
The psychological techniques involves in sports psychology are highly transferable to other domains which involve performing, such as musical theatre, acting, musicians, businesses, even professions such a healthcare, surgeons, veterinarians - all of which involve performing under pressure.
-
Even if you no longer compete or take part in your sport, you may feel that your sporting career has left you with some things you need to work through. Perhaps you feel you did not achieve your goals and you are finding it hard to let it go. Perhaps you did not have a choice about your retirement and you are struggling to accept it. Perhaps you had a great career and are struggling to move on. I can help. No matter how long ago you retired.

Client Reviews
“I can’t recommend IronMind Performance enough. Every session is engaging, challenging, and genuinely enjoyable. Em has a real gift for keeping things interesting while still pushing you to grow. I’ve seen consistent, meaningful results since working with IronMind Performance, and Em’s support makes the whole journey feel achievable.
If you’re looking for an online coach who delivers real progress and keeps you motivated every step of the way, IronMind Performance is the one. Absolutely outstanding.”
Alice Hegarty“I worked with Emma through two training plans. The first was to prepare for a marathon and the second to help me build up my strength following a lower back injury.
I wouldn’t have known where to start with marathon training, but Emma’s programming was achievable without being overwhelming. She’s super supportive and tailored the training around my gym sessions and adapted it if any injuries cropped up. I would never have run a marathon without her help!
Emma also programmed strength and conditioning sessions for me after I had a lower back injury. These sessions, along with Emma’s advice and guidance, gave me a good structure to build my strength back up and the confidence to get back in the gym.
Emma’s a great coach, if I have any training goals I need help with in the future I’ll be turning to her again and I’d recommend anyone else to do the same.”
Andy Coates“I recently did a 16 week training block for the Manchester Marathon with Gage. She helped me fall in love with running, whilst pushing me progressively along the way, all whilst keeping me injury free. She truly is amazing at her job and would recommend her programme to anyone!”
